Electronic Data Interface (EDI) has become a requirement for many distribution companies transacting with larger department stores and wholesalers. It is becoming the way of the future for doing B2B. It is not only an efficient way of communication transactions electronically and efficiently, but is also becoming a requirement in order to do business with many wholesalers and retailers.
Without EDI, companies must use a paper-based system for transacting business versus a business management solution such as Microsoft Dynamics GP or Sage. This means paper documents are mailed or faxed between companies to exchange information. Companies that are EDI enabled can send and receive business documents electronically with their trading partners. The digital exchange of data is facilitated using computers, most if not all of the associated business processes (such as data population and verification) can be automated so that they occur with little or no manual intervention.
